I think the difference between the base C7 and ZO6 is distinguishable from the difference between ZO6 and ZR1. Corvette enthusiasts were all pretty positive a higher performance Vette would be released. Every Corvette generation has had upgraded motor/performance packages. The customers that would wait for a higher performance model weren't really in the market for the base C7. The jump from ZO6 to ZR1 this generation is much more speculative. If GM tells everyone a ZR1 won't happen, then the guys who want a performance upgrade will go ahead and buy the ZO6.
